Learn how to troubleshoot sign-in issues with your Kinect sensor on your Xbox One console.
The Kinect sensor won’t turn on
If your Kinect sensor won’t turn on, a setting may be turned off. Make sure that your Kinect is turned on in Settings. Here's how:
Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Settings.
Select All Settings.
Select Kinect & devices.
Select Kinect.
Make sure that Kinect on is selected.
The Kinect sensor doesn’t recognize you
If Kinect occasionally doesn’t recognize you or occasionally recognizes someone else as you, follow these steps:
Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Sign in, and then select Add & manage.
Select I wasn’t recognized.
On the “<first name> is that you?” screen, make sure your name appears next to your image on the preview screen. If you’re recognized, select That’s me.
If Kinect consistently doesn’t recognize you, follow these steps:
Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
Select Settings.
Select All Settings.
Select Reset my Kinect sign-in data.
Select Sign me in with Kinect.
On the “<first name> is that you?” screen, make sure your name appears next to your image on the preview screen. If you’re recognized, select That’s me.
Notes
Kinect sign-in data is saved on the console. Therefore, if you want to use this feature on other consoles, you must set up Kinect sign-in data on each console.
If multiple people are in the view during sign-in, known users will have their names highlighted next to them. Unknown users will be listed as “guest.”
If you make a mistake by selecting the wrong person during sign-in, just follow the “Kinect consistently doesn’t recognize you” instructions on this page.
