Error 0x80070005 occurs when launching a game or app on Xbox One
You see the following error code when you try to launch a game or app on your Xbox One console:
This means that there might be a problem with the Xbox Live service, or that there’s an issue with the item you’re trying to launch.
Solution 1: Check the Xbox Live service status
If you see alerts, wait until the service is up and running, then try launching your game or app again.
If you get the same error, try the following solutions.
Solution 2: Power cycle your Xbox
Turn off your Xbox by holding the power button on the front of the console for 10 seconds. The console will turn off. Then turn your console back on.
Solution 3: Uninstall and reinstall game or app
If you’re trying to use a game or app, uninstall and then reinstall it:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide, select My games & apps, and then See all.
- Select Games or Apps.
- Highlight the game or app you want to uninstall, press the Menu button , and then select Uninstall.
- Select Uninstall all.
You can then reinstall the game or app by inserting the disc or downloading again from the Ready to install tab. To download again, select the game title from the Ready to install tab at the top of the screen. You can also find the game by searching for it in the Microsoft Store.
Note Installing from a disc does not apply to the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, which doesn’t include an optical disc drive.
Solution 4: Reset your console
As a last resort, you could try resetting your Xbox. This reinstalls the console’s operating system. Depending on your network, it could take a while.
Warning Be sure to select Reset and keep my games & apps. Otherwise, you’ll reset your console to factory defaults.
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then go to System > Settings > System > Console info.
- Select Reset console.
- Select Reset and keep my games & apps. This will reset the OS and delete all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games or apps.
