Incompatible game version error when playing a Co-op or Versus game

When you try to play a Co-op or Versus game with your online friends, you may get the following error message:

    INCOMPATIBLE GAME VERSIONS

You have a different version of the game than the host

This message means that you haven't updated to the latest version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.

To resolve this issue, return to the game's main menu and sync your game by one of the following methods:

    • Select Versus and then select Xbox Live.
    • Select Campaign, select Join Co-op Game, and then select Xbox Live.
    • Select Campaign, select Host Co-op Game, and then select Public or Private Xbox Live.

If you successfully sync your game, the following message is displayed:

    Downloading Latest Multiplayer Data

Your copy of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will update itself with the latest game version data.

Note If the issue persists, close and restart the game. You can also check for available updates by launching the Store app, selecting your account icon, and then selecting Downloads and updates.

    Missing game data

Switching accounts in the Xbox app can result in a temporary desynchronization of your save data. If your save data is missing or if the game is unable to synchronize your data, try signing in to the Xbox app and then restarting your device to recover the account data.

    Online service error

You may encounter the following error message when the game fails to connect to Gears of War Services:

    ONLINE SERVICE ERROR

Gear of War: Ultimate Edition services login failed, access to online multiplayer is not available.

You are not connected to Xbox Live. Please check your connection and try again.

Try the following to fix this problem:

    1. Check your Internet connection. For troubleshooting steps, see Fix network connection issues.
    2. Sign in to your Microsoft account and restart the game.
    3. Sign in to your Microsoft account and restart your device.

    Error when syncing cloud data

You may encounter the following error message when the game fails to sync your data to the cloud:

We can't sync your data with the cloud right now.

To resolve this error, close the game and restart your device. Once your device has restarted, sign back in to the Xbox app and try to launch the game again.
