Double NAT detected in your network settings
If you see “Double NAT detected” in your network settings, try these steps to change or remove it.
See if you’re using a modem or a gateway
If you aren’t sure whether the device in your home network is a modem or a gateway, there are a few clues to look for:
- Check the labels on the device, the manufacturer info, or the model number
- If you have a wireless signal from a device to allow internet access, you most likely have a gateway.
- If you have multiple ports on the device, you most likely have a gateway.
Your network uses a router and a gateway
If you’re using both a router and a gateway, you’ll need to remove one of them from the network. To remove one of these, you can use one of the following methods.
Change how your gateway or router is set up
First, try putting your gateway into bridge mode. Each manufacturer handles bridge mode differently, so you’ll need to check with your manufacturer or service provider to find out how to do this.
If you can’t put your gateway into bridge mode, try changing your router to function only as an access point. This will remove it as a NAT on your network.
Once you’ve changed either your gateway or your router settings, restart your Xbox and your network devices, and then check your network settings again to make sure that the NAT message is gone.
To check your network settings:
- Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
- Select System > Settings > Network.
- Select Network settings.
If “Double NAT detected” does not appear, the issue has been resolved. If it’s still there, try the following solution.
Connect your Xbox One directly to the gateway
Try connecting your Xbox directly to your gateway through Wi-Fi, a wired connection, or an alternate connection like Powerline or MoCA adapters.
After you’ve connected your Xbox directly to your gateway, check your network settings to make sure that the NAT message is gone.
If you’re still seeing the NAT message, contact your service provider for more help.
