Troubleshoot Kinect errors for Xbox One

    Overview

The Kinect sensor for Xbox One is designed to self-correct whenever possible. For example, if the sensor is having a difficult time updating its firmware, it'll attempt to solve the problem before you see an error message. In the event it can't correct itself, you'll see one of two error messages for the Kinect sensor.

    "Error: Kinect setup can't continue"

When you try to set up the Kinect sensor, you get the following error:

    There's a problem

Kinect setup can't continue. For help, go to xbox.com/xboxone/KinectSupport.

This is a software error with the Kinect sensor. Try the following steps to correct the condition.

Note If you see this error during the console's initial setup, skip the Kinect setup portion and do the following steps after you set up the console.

    1. Make sure the Kinect sensor is connected firmly to the console's Kinect port.
    2. Power cycle your console by holding down the console's Xbox button for 10 seconds, and then rebooting the console. See Power cycle your Xbox One console.
    3. Go to the Kinect Settings page:
      1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
      2. Select Settings.
      3. Select All settings.
      4. Select Kinect & devices.
      5. Select Kinect.
    4. On the Kinect Settings page, make sure Kinect on is selected. Stay on this page for 5 minutes to make sure your console completes any available updates.
    5. If the Kinect Settings screen shows an image, the sensor is now working. If the screen is not showing an image, your Kinect needs to be repaired. See Getting your Xbox console or Kinect sensor serviced.

"Error: There's a problem with your Kinect sensor"

While using your Xbox One, you get the following error:

    There's a problem

There's a problem with your Kinect sensor. Request a repair at xbox.com/xboxone/repair.

Unfortunately, this type of error indicates that the problem with the Kinect sensor can't be resolved, and the sensor must be repaired. See Getting your Xbox console or Kinect sensor serviced.

Error: You Kinect sensor turns on and off repeatedly

    Try the following:

    1. Turn off the Xbox One console by pressing the Xbox button on the front of the console for about 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.
    2. Unplug the Kinect sensor from the console.
    3. Press the Xbox button on your console to turn it on.
    4. Plug the Kinect sensor into the back of the console and wait up to about 2 minutes for it to be recognized.
    5. Go to the Kinect Settings page:
      1. Press the Xbox button to open the guide.
      2. Select Settings.
      3. Select All settings.
      4. Select Kinect & devices.
      5. Select Kinect.
    6. Select I moved my Kinect sensor or I'm having trouble with Kinect.
    7. Follow the instructions to adjust your Kinect sensor, including audio calibration.

If these steps didn't resolve the problem, your Kinect sensor needs to be repaired See Getting your Xbox console or Kinect sensor serviced.
