Error 8C020007 occurs when you are required to change your gamertag
Problem
You see the following error message when you’re required to change your gamertag using your Xbox 360 console:
Sorry, there's a problem with the Xbox service. Try again later. For help with this problem, go to www.xbox.com/errorhelp.
Status code: 8C020007
This means that a problem is preventing you from changing your gamertag on your console after you receive a Forced Gamertag Change request.
Solution
To resolve this problem, sign in to your Xbox Live account. After you sign in, you’ll be prompted to change your existing gamertag to a new one. You won’t be charged for this change.
If you’re not prompted to select a new gamertag when you sign in to your Xbox console, follow these steps:
- Select Sign in in the upper right corner of any Xbox.com webpage, such as this one.
- Enter your Microsoft account credentials, and then select Sign in.
- Select My Account.
- Select Change my gamertag.
- Enter a new gamertag, and then select Check Availability.
- To claim the gamertag, select Claim It!.
