Error 80090304 occurs when you try connecting to Xbox Live on Xbox 360

You see the following error code when you try to connect to Xbox Live on your Xbox 360 console:


This may mean one of the following:

  • The billing information for your account needs to be updated.
  • The cache information on your Xbox console needs to be refreshed.
  • There’s a problem with your connection to Xbox Live.


Solution 1: Verify your Microsoft account security information

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account. Forgotten your password? Reset your password.
  2. Click Edit security info.
  3. Verify your security information. For example, make sure that your Phone number, Alternate email address, and Security question information are correct.
  4. Go to Billing and select Billing information.
  5. Verify the billing information for your Microsoft account. For example, verify that the billing address for your Microsoft account matches the billing address used by your credit card company. Also, make sure that your Microsoft account payment details, including capitalization, match the information used by your credit card company.
  6. Sign out of your Microsoft account, and then sign in again.
  7. On your console, try to connect to Xbox Live.

Solution 2: Clear any stored information from the console

  1. Delete the profile from your Xbox 360 console. To do so, go to Delete an Xbox Live profile from an Xbox 360 console.
  2. Clear the system cache. See How to clear the cache on Xbox 360.
  3. Turn off your Xbox console and your network hardware (such as your modem and router).
  1. Wait 30 seconds.
  2. Turn on your modem and wait for it to come online (about a minute).
  3. Turn on the next piece of hardware (for example, your router) and wait another minute.
  4. Download your profile. See Download your Xbox Live profile to a different Xbox 360 console or redownload it.

After your profile downloads, restart the console, and then try to connect to Xbox Live.

Solution 3: Troubleshoot your Xbox Live connection

If you continue to get the error, check your Xbox Live connection. See Troubleshoot Xbox 360 connection to Xbox Live.
