Error 80162765 occurs when you try to make an Xbox Live purchase on Xbox 360

You see the following error code and message when you try to purchase something from Xbox Live:

Sorry, there's a problem with the Xbox service. Try again later.
Status code: 80162765

This means that there may be a problem with your payment option. For example, this error can occur if there's an outstanding balance on your primary method of payment.

Note If you're trying to redeem a prepaid Xbox Live subscription code and you see this error, you should pay the outstanding balance on the primary payment option and then redeem the prepaid code. (An outstanding balance is most likely caused by a monthly renewal of an existing Xbox Live subscription that is associated with your billing account.)

To resolve this problem, use the following solutions:

Solution 1: Pay outstanding balance owed on Xbox 360

To manage your payment options on Xbox 360, see Manage your payment options on Xbox 360

Sign in to your Microsoft account and follow the steps to pay the outstanding balance owed on your primary payment option.

Solution 2: Pay outstanding balance owed online

If your current payment option has expired or is no longer valid, you'll have to change the option associated with your subscription. Here's how:

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account.
  2. Select Services & subscriptions.
  3. Under Next charge, select Pay now for the subscription with the past due balance.
  1. On the “Change how you pay for these subscriptions" page, select the payment option you want to change from the dropdown list.

Note To add a new payment option, select Add a new way to pay, select Next, and then follow the steps to set up your credit card, debit card, or PayPal account as a new payment option.

    1. Once you've changed the payment option, select Next. This will transfer any balance you owe and immediately charge the new payment option.

If you need to remove a payment option, select Payment & billing, select the payment option to remove, and then select Remove. For details, see Manage your payment options online.
