Error C000-0286 occurs when downloading an update on Xbox 360
You see the following error code and message when you try to download an update to your Xbox 360 console:
Can't Process the Update. If the problem persists, go to www.Xbox.com/support.
This may mean that you’re having a problem with your connection to Xbox Live.
To resolve this problem, try the following solutions:
Solution 1: Try installing the update again. Here’s how:
- Restart your console.
- Press the Xbox Guide button on your controller.
- Go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
- Select Network Settings.
- Select Wired Network or your wireless network name (if you are prompted to do so).
- Select Test Xbox Live Connection.
- Select Yes if you are prompted to update your console software.
Solution 2: Establish a direct connection between your console and your modem by using an Ethernet cable. There should be no other devices plugged into your modem at this point. Again try to install the update.

Note You can also update your console software by downloading the update to a USB flash drive or a disc and then transferring it to your console. See Troubleshoot console software update problems.
