Adjust the thumbsticks on your Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2

The Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 comes with a thumbstick-adjustment tool that lets you tweak the tension in the left and right sticks until they’re just the way you like them.

Important We recommend only using the included thumbstick-adjustment tool for this procedure, but if you don’t have it on hand, you can also use a slotted screwdriver (3.0mm or SAE 3/32” work best). To avoid damaging the controller, use low force when applying the tool. To request a replacement tool, see Xbox Online Service Center.

To adjust a stick:

  1. Remove the stick by pulling it up and away from the magnetic tug of the controller.

  1. Insert the thumbstick-adjustment tool into the exposed contact point where the stick used to be. The contact point looks like a Phillips-head screw.

  1. The sticks have three resistance settings; you’ll feel the contact point click into place when you turn it. Turn the tool clockwise to tighten the stick or turn counter-clockwise to loosen it.

  1. Place the stick back on the controller, then try it out.

Repeat these steps until you get the perfect feel.
