Error 0x800705b4 occurs after a console, game, or app update

If you see the following error code when you try to start your Xbox or a game or app after an update:

0x800705b4

This could mean that the update was unsuccessful.

Trying to update your Xbox?

Solution 1: Do a power cycle

  1. Turn off by pressing the Xbox button  on the front of the console for 10 seconds, until it shuts down completely.
  2. Unplug the power cable. Wait 10 seconds.

    Important Be sure to wait 10 seconds. This resets the power supply.

  3. Plug the power cable in and turn your Xbox back on.

Solution 2: Do an offline update

To perform an offline update, download the Xbox One Offline System Update tool on your PC. Follow the steps in the Xbox One System Updates Solution.

Solution 3: Do a factory reset

As a last resort, you can reset to factory defaults:

  1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
  2. Go to Settings > System > Console info.
  3. Select Reset console.

Trying to launch a game or app?

Solution 1: Check the Xbox Live service status

If you see any alerts here, wait until the service is up and running and try again:

Solution 2: Uninstall and then reinstall the game or app

  1. On the Home screen, select My games & apps.
  2. Highlight the game or app, and then press the Menu button  on your controller.
  3. Select Manage game.
  4. Select Uninstall all.
  5. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
  6. Go to Settings > Power & startup >Turn off or restart, then choose Restart now.
  7. After restart, download the game or app and try launching it.

Solution 3: Do a power cycle

Solution 4: Remove and re-add your profile

  1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
  2. Go to Settings > Account > Remove accounts.
  3. Select your account, and then select Remove.
  4. Select your gamerpic, and then select Add new.
  5. Enter your Microsoft account email address, then select Enter.

    Important Do not select Get a new email.

  6. Enter your Microsoft account password, then select Enter.
  7. Read the Microsoft Service Agreement and Privacy Statement, and then select I Accept.

Solution 5: Do a factory reset

As a last resort, you can reset to factory defaults:

  1. Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.
  2. Go to Settings > System > Console info and select Reset console.
