Error C00D124D occurs when you use the Zune software

Note As of November 15, 2015, the Zune service has been discontinued. This may cause errors when attempting to stream or download content or update the service. For more information, see the Zune retirement FAQ.

You see the following error code when using the Zune software with your computer and a connected device, such as a Windows Phone 7 or a Zune player:

    C00D124D

This may mean that your computer doesn't recognize the connected device.

    Solutions

To resolve this problem, try the following solutions.

Solution 1: Disconnect the device and then restart

Disconnect the device from your computer, and then restart your device and your computer.

    • To restart your Windows Phone 7

Press and hold the Power button until you see “Slide down to power off,” and then flick down. After it's off, press the Power button to turn on your phone again.

If this restart sequence doesn't work for your phone, try the following options:

      • Press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds. After it's off, press the Power button to turn on your phone again.
      • If your phone has a replaceable battery, remove and reinsert the battery, which is located under your phone's back panel. Then, press the Power button to turn on your phone again.
    • To restart your Zune HD player

Press and hold the power button for about 10 seconds until the player restarts.

    • To restart your non-touchscreen Zune
      1. Set the Hold switch to the unlocked position.

Note To make sure that the Hold switch is in the unlocked position, you may have to move the switch back and forth until it’s in the correct position.

      2. Press and hold the Back button while you press the top of the Zune Pad.
      3. Release the buttons when your Zune device begins to restart.

Reconnect your device to the computer using the USB cable that came with your device, and then try syncing your media again.

To see if your items synced, go to the Phone or Device screen. Then, click Summary or the device icon to confirm that the items were added.

Solution 2: Try the "Computer doesn't recognize your device on the Zune software” solution

To try a step-by-step solution, go to Computer doesn't recognize your device on the Zune software .

Solution 3: Reinstall the Zune software

To do this, see Download or reinstall the Zune Music + Video software and Zune player software.

Solution 4: Update the device driver for your Windows Phone 7

Connect your device to your computer using the USB cord that came with the device, and then follow these steps on your computer:

    1. Click Start, right-click Computer, and then click Properties.

Note If you're using Windows 8: From the Start screen, start typing “computer.” When it appears on your screen, right-click or swipe the Computer icon, and then click Properties.

    2. Click Device Manager in the left column.
    3. A window will appear with the name of your computer and a list of files. If you don't see the files, click the arrow next to the name of your computer to see the list. The name of your Windows Phone should be listed under Portable Devices. If Windows Phone was incorrectly installed, it may be listed with a yellow exclamation mark. Or, it may be listed under Other Devices as a USB device or as an unknown device.
    4. Right-click or swipe the name of your phone, and then click Uninstall.
    5. Select Delete the driver software for this device, and then click OK.
    6. Return to the Device Manager window, click the Action menu, and then click Scan for hardware changes.
    7. Open Portable Devices, double-click or swipe the name of your Windows Phone, and then click the Driver tab. Or, if you don't see your phone name, click Unknown device listed under Other Devices, and then click the Driver tab.
    8. Click Update Driver, and then click Browse my computer for driver software.
    9. Click Browse, locate the Program Files/Zune/Drivers folder on your computer, and then click OK.
    10. Click Next, and if you're prompted, click Install. You might only be given a Close option.
    11. After the driver installation is complete, close the open windows until you exit the Device Manager, and then restart your computer if you’re prompted.

If these solutions don't resolve the problem, contact Xbox Support.
