Xbox One game disc exchange

If you’ve purchased a game on disc and it doesn’t install on your console, you can exchange it within 90 days of purchase under the terms and conditions of the Microsoft Game Disc Exchange Program.

Note Before contacting us for an exchange, be aware of the following:

  • If your Xbox One console can’t play a disc, first try using the steps in How to troubleshoot problems playing a disc on your Xbox One to resolve the problem.
  • The Microsoft Game Disc Exchange Program applies ONLY to games published by Microsoft and is subject to availability. If the game is published by another company, contact that company for its policy regarding exchanging discs. To browse Microsoft published games, go to Microsoft Store.

How to exchange your game

To exchange your Microsoft game, follow these steps:

  1. First, attempt to exchange your disc with the retailer from whom you originally purchased the game.
  2. If you’re unable to exchange with the retailer, and you’re within the accessory warranty period of your purchase, contact Xbox Support.
    1. You’ll need to provide the following information to the support agent, so make sure that you have it ready:
      • Your email address
      • Your original purchase receipt
      • Photos of the front and back of the disc
      • Your Xbox gamertag
      • Your Console ID
    2. To find your Xbox gamertag, press the Xbox button on your controller, and then scroll up to your signed-in profile. Your gamertag will be displayed underneath your profile picture.
    3. To find your Console ID, press the Xbox button on your controller, and then go to System > Settings > System > Console info. Make a note of your Console ID.

  • You must be over 18 years of age.
  • Microsoft will only provide a replacement of the same game title. Microsoft may, at its discretion, provide a digital version of the title instead of a replacement disc.
  • This program is for CONSUMER END-USERS only. You must include your Xbox One console serial number for each order. You can request one (1) exchange of each game title.
  • This limited-time program is subject to availability, and subject to change without notice.
  • Microsoft may exchange only selected titles and has no obligation to exchange all titles or any particular title.
  • These Terms and Conditions constitute the entire agreement between the parties and supersede any agreements or communications (whether oral or written) regarding the Program.

Contact other game companies

If your game is not published by Microsoft, contact the game publisher about its game disc replacement policy.
