Sending and receiving messages on Xbox One

For voice messages, plug a headset into your Xbox One Wireless Controller or use Kinect.

Before you send and receive messages, also referred to as chats, consider choosing who can communicate with you by text and voice—on Xbox Live and in multiplayer games outside of Xbox Live. Do this by pressing the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide, then select System > Settings > Account > Privacy & online safety > Xbox Live privacy > View details & customize > Communication & multiplayer.

  1. Sign in at
  2. Select your gamertag in the top right of your browser, then select Xbox Profile > Messages.
