Error 80169EB6 occurs when making a purchase on your Xbox console
You see the following error code when you try to make a purchase on your Xbox console:
Error code: 80169EB6
This may mean that there's something wrong with the payment option you're using for your account.
Solutions
Solution 1: Remove an expired payment option on your account
Important If the payment option is used to pay for a subscription, you’ll need to first cancel your subscription before you can remove your payment option. For more information, see How to cancel your Xbox Live subscription.
If your payment option is used for purchases only, you can easily remove it. To remove your payment option, go to Remove a payment option online, select Remove a payment option on the left side of the screen, and then follow the instructions.
Solution 2: Clear an outstanding balance on your account
If you have a payment option tied to a subscription that has an outstanding balance, you'll have to settle the balance owed before you can make a purchase on your Xbox console.
Here’s how to pay your past-due balance online:
- Sign in to the Services & subscriptions page with your Microsoft account.
- Find your past-due subscription in the list. The amount past due will be in red.
- Select Pay now, and then follow the instructions to pay the balance due.
Note If your subscription is past due, adding a digital code will not settle the balance you owe. You’ll need to settle the outstanding balance using the steps above before redeeming your digital code.
