Error 87E00008 occurs when starting a game on Xbox One

You see the following error code when you start an Xbox One game:

87E00008

This may mean that the game didn't install correctly or has a pending update. This may also happen if the game was moved between storage devices or was launched while an update was being applied.

Solutions

To resolve this issue, try the following solutions.

Solution 1: Check the Xbox Live service status

If you see any alerts here, wait until the service is up and running and try again:

Social and Gaming: up and running
2019-10-21T09:35:40.6496391+00:00

Solution 2: Check if the game has a pending update

  1. On Home, select My games & apps.
  2. Select Games.
  3. Find the game you're trying to play.

If the game tile appears dimmed and displays a progress bar, it's getting an update. Wait until the process is complete. You’ll see a "*" icon in the upper-right corner of the game tile when the game has successfully updated.

Try to start the game again.

Solution 3: Restart your Xbox One console

  1. Press and hold the Xbox button  in the center of your Xbox One controller to open the Power Center.
  2. Select Restart console.
  3. Select Restart.
  4. Try to launch the game again.

Note If the console appears to be frozen, press and hold the Xbox button  on the console for 10 seconds, until the console turns off. After the console shuts down, touch the Xbox button  on the console again to restart. Try to launch the game again.

Solution 4: Reinstall the game

Reinstalling the game will overwrite the game stored on your console, and it will trigger an update if one is required. Whether you installed from a disc or from the Microsoft Store, you need to uninstall the previous installation first. To uninstall a game:

  1. On Home, select My games & apps.
  2. Select Games.
  3. Select the game you want to reinstall.
  4. Press the Menu button  on your controller and select Uninstall.

Then, reinstall the game by inserting the disc or downloading it again from the Microsoft Store. To download the game again, search for the game in the Microsoft Store, select the game, and then select Install.

Note Installing from a disc does not apply to the Xbox One S All-Digital Edition, which doesn’t include an optical disc drive.
