Solutions
To resolve this problem, try the following solutions:
Solution 1: Check Xbox Live service status
Check for service alerts at Xbox Live status, or see if there's an Xbox Live service alert at the top of this page. If there are any current service alerts, wait a while and then try again.
US customers only: If a specific service or app is experiencing an outage, you can request SMS or voice notification when it's working again. Under the app or service name, click Notify me when this service or app is up and running.
Solution 2: Remove storage devices and try updating the console again
- Turn off your console.
- Remove all console storage devices, including any USB flash drives, external hard drive, or internal hard drive from the Xbox 360 console. (See Add or remove an Xbox 360 hard drive.)
- Add your primary storage device, for example, the hard drive.
- Turn on the console.
- Try updating the console again.
Solution 3: Request a repair
If the previous solutions didn't resolve the problem, go to the Online Service Center to request a repair. For more information, see Getting your Xbox console or Kinect sensor serviced.
