How to digitally set up your Xbox One console with the Xbox app

Instead of waiting for your Xbox One console to complete its system update, you can complete the digital setup using the Xbox app on your mobile device.

Note Follow the steps on this page on a mobile device. Digital setup is not available on PC and must be completed either on console or on Apple or Android mobile devices.

Follow these steps:

  1. In an open browser, go to http://aka.ms/xboxsetup, shown on the update screen, or use your camera app to use the QR.

    Note We recommend you write down the code listed on the update screen—you’ll need to enter this code into the app after you’ve signed in.

  2. On the Welcome to Xbox screen, select Tap to continue setup in the Xbox app.

    Note If you don’t already have the Xbox app on your phone, you’ll be prompted to install it.

  3. Sign into the Xbox app and then enter the code from the update screen.
  4. Answer the on-screen questions until you finish the digital set up.
  5. Go back to your console. Once the system update finishes, you’ll be prompted to apply your settings from the Xbox app. Select Yes to continue.
