Error 80151006 occurs when connecting to Xbox Live on Xbox 360
You see the following error code when you try to connect to the Xbox Live service on your Xbox 360 console:
80151006
This may mean one of the following:
- There’s a temporary problem with the Xbox Live service.
- Your Microsoft account is valid, but it is not associated with a gamertag.
- A gamertag name change has not completed successfully.

Solution 1: Check the Xbox Live service status
Solution 2: Sign up for a Microsoft account
To access Xbox Live on your Xbox 360 console, you need a Microsoft account associated with your gamertag.
To sign up, See Choose an email address to use with your Microsoft account.

Solution 3: Power cycle your console and clear the cache
Restarting your console and clearing the cache may resolve the issue:
- Power down your Xbox console by pressing the Xbox button on the console.
- Remove all accessories from the console (Kinect sensor, headsets, wired controllers, etc.).
- Turn the console on by pressing the Xbox button on the console.
- Clear the cache:
- Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
- Select Storage or Memory.
- Highlight any storage device, and then press Y on your controller. (It doesn't matter which storage device you select; the cache will be cleared for all storage devices.)
- Select Clear System Cache.
- When prompted to confirm storage device maintenance, select Yes.
- Power down the console and restart it again.
Solution 4: If you recently changed your gamertag, delete and redownload your profile
If you recently changed your gamertag, the name change may not have completed successfully. To resolve the problem, delete your gamer profile, clear the system cache, and then redownload your gamer profile. Here's how:
Delete your gamer profile
- Press the Guide button on your controller, go to Settings, and then select System Settings.
- Select Storage.
- Select All Devices.
- Select Gamer Profiles.
- Select the gamertag that you want to delete.
- Select Delete.
- Select Delete Profile Only. (This deletes the profile but leaves saved games and achievements.)
Clear your system cache
See the instructions for clearing the cache in Solution 3, above.
Redownload your gamer profile
- Press the Guide button on your controller.
- Select Download Profile.
- At the bottom of the Download Profile screen, select Download Profile.
- Enter the email address of the Microsoft account that's associated with your Xbox profile. If you don't know it, use the Lost Account Solution.
- Enter your Microsoft account password. If you've forgotten it, you'll need to reset your password.
- If you use external storage on your console, select the storage device on which you want to save the profile. If you don't use external storage, your profile will begin downloading.
