Xbox One system settings

This page describes the system settings on your Xbox One console. These settings enable you to learn about and control some of your console’s core behavior.

To access the system settings, press the Xbox button on your controller to open the guide, and then select System > Settings > System.

Console info

Here you can find information you’ll need to register and troubleshoot your console, including the serial number, console ID, OS version, Xbox Live device ID, and more.

Here you can set the device name, which identifies your console when there are multiple Xbox One consoles on the same network.

Reset console

Select this to either:

  • Reset and keep my games & apps: This is your primary choice when troubleshooting. It resets the OS and deletes all potentially corrupted data without deleting your games or apps.
  • Reset and remove everything: This option erases all accounts, apps, games, saved games (that haven’t been synced to the cloud), and settings, and then restarts the console.

Important This option should be used rarely and should not be considered a troubleshooting step.

Allow enhanced error reporting

Check this box to send Microsoft data to fix and improve Xbox One based on your usage and errors you encounter.

Updates & downloads

You’ll see if console updates are available here, and when your console was last updated. Check the boxes for “Keep my console up to date” and “Keep my games & apps up to date” if you want automatic updates.

You’ll also find options for remote downloading in this section.

Language & location

The language and location settings allow you to change the language display information of your console. If you move to a different time zone or region, you should update your console settings here.

The Spoken language setting determines the language that will be used for voice commands, while the Keyboard language setting determines the language in which you type.

Time zone

This setting identifies the time zone to which your console is currently set.

Automatically adjust for Daylight Saving

You can choose to have the console clock change automatically with Daylight Saving Time.

System time

The system time settings are inaccessible (and will appear grayed out) while you're connected to Xbox Live. During those times, your console uses “net time,” which is automatically pulled from time servers online. The time settings you can change when you’re not connected to Xbox Live are Time and Date.

Clear local saved games

This will clear out saved games from the console. This can be helpful if a game fails to launch because of a corrupted save.

Clear local Xbox 360 storage

This will clear out saved Xbox 360 games and your profile from the console. This can be helpful if a game fails to launch due to a corrupted save.

Make more space

This setting gives you the options of uninstalling old add-ons and shrinking certain games.

You'll also see a tile on the right representing the storage devices attached to your console. Highlight the device and then press the A button  to see a menu of options.

Backup & transfer

This setting allows you to back up and restore your console’s settings on your external storage device.

You can also perform a network transfer, and turn on the ability to download 4K game content from this setting.
